Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Yunruijie, Baoshan, Yunnan. It was named by Duan Lilan in 1973.

Synonym: Pumenqian Fm (upper)


Lithology and Thickness

Limestone. Lower part consists of gray and gray-white moderately thick-bedded micritic-sparry pellet-bearing bioclastic limestone. Upper part is of thick-bedded sparry oolitic limestone and sparry pellet-lump limestones. Thickness 130 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformable contact with the underlying Shihuadong Fm

Upper contact

Disconformable contact with the overlying Dingjiazhai Fm

Regional extent

Relatively stable distribution in the Baoshan area.

Fossils

Fossils are mostly worn and broken. Containing corals Caninophyllum, Palaeosmilia, Kueichouphyllum, Dibunophyllum and Diphyphyllum as well as brachiopods and algae.

Visean of the middle Early Carboniferous. Wang et al. (2019; China Integrated Strat) shows it spans upper half of Visean
